MEET STEVE KONOPELSKI
Steve Konopelski is a former Broadway Dancer turned Pastry Chef, Caterer and Couture Wedding Cake Designer. He’s also Food Network’s $25K winner of Haunted Gingerbread Showdown 2018.This is Steve’s THIRD appearance on a Food Network competition baking show. The others were Holiday Baking Championship where Steve was runner-up and Holiday Baking Championship: Runners Up Redemption.
Steve’s confectionary talent was evident in his Food Network’s prize winning gingerbread lighthouse. It stood 38″ high and was 100% edible. Some of its jaw-dropping and intricate features were body parts made of gingerbread and chocolate, handmade floating furniture and ghosts, glass windows made of sugar, and a cake boat floating in a lagoon filled with water.
PASTRY CHEF & WEDDING CAKE DESIGNER
A classically trained pastry chef, Steve graduated from the prestigious International Culinary Center. While earning his degree, he worked as a pastry cook at the esteemed Saxon + Parole restaurant in New York City. After graduation, Steve was a cake decorator at the Garden City Hotel on Long Island and an assistant to the pastry chef at the five stars North Fork Table & Inn also on Long Island.
Steve has expanded his brand to include two successful businesses which he owns with husband Rob Griffith. They include a catering company and a historic waterfront bed and breakfast in Denton, Maryland called Turnbridge Point. With so many Food Network appearances it’s not surprising that Steve and Rob’s B&B is a popular spot for weddings.
Chef Steve’s specialty isn’t just over the top gingerbread houses, but his one of a kind gorgeous wedding cakes. For example, the rustic wedding cake he created for his Broadway friend Vasthy Mompoint and her fiancé Mason Granger seen in MarthaStewartWeddings.com. It was a Bohemian style cake with an unexpected ingredient, bacon. Bacon was the couple’s favorite food, so bacon it was. The end result was a delicious banana cake with candied bacon, peanut butter mousse, vanilla marshmallow frosting and decorated with real fresh lavender twigs.
